Tatler : Case Study Blog Task

1) Based on the trailer, what type of people produce and read Tatler? Consider demographics and psychographics.

Looking at the video closely, I have noticed that it shows how posh people live and what their lifestyle is like. It also suggests that there are upper classes and lower classes and how different families live like and rich people showing their money of by hosting big parties.

2) Look at the Tatler Media Pack 2018. Go to page 2: how does the editor introduce the magazine

 The editor of Tatler customises the magazine as niche. It is about how it is basically targeted to the richest readers in the country and how they live.

3) Now go to page 4 of the Media Pack. Focus on the print magazine (NOT tatler.com - the website). List the key demographic details: age, gender %, ABC1 % (social class), HHI (Household Income), % of those living in London and the South East. What do these demographic details suggest about the average Tatler reader?

The demographics for this magazine is for woman who are adults ageing 18-30 who are most likely upper class or upper middle class and who own a house and earn a good amount of money where they they can buy high quality items and this magazine should impress you because of the population of people that love Tatler.


4) Look at page 6. What do Tatler readers think about fashion? How much do they spend?

Tatler readers are focused on fashion and most of them are aspires who love to spend lots of money on fashion and designer clothes/shoes. Over £843 million has been spent on fashion just over a year and it shows that many are influenced by Tatler which connotes that Tatler is a successful company.

5) Go to page 10. What are the special editions of Tatler that run throughout the year? What does this suggest about the pyschographic groups who read Tatler?


Page 10 tells us a lot about what Tatler can show you about and help the rich with things like where to travel (travel guides) this is only for the rich showing that only rich people can afford this trip and enjoy themselves.

It also suggests that Tatler can help you anything about weddings or your wedding day and you spend a lot on your wedding day (wedding guide)
Tatler also gives you beauty/spa guide which connotes that only rich people will buy it and don't care how much it is.



Media language

Publication: The title is big and bold and it stands out a lot it also is very eye catching.
Central Image: The central image is of her face and it stands out a lot by showing her facial expression.
The characters that are featured in this are most likely famous or a celeb so it makes the audience feel special.

2) What is the font choice used in the title and what does this choice connote?

The font being used in this is called Sans-Serif which connotes that this is serious and only for the rich. 

3) What font is used for the cover lines? What does that choice connote?

It is being used by showing us what posh looks like or should look like and that these should be the new rules for the 21st century.

4) How do the cover lines appeal to the Tatler target audience?

It tells the audience about any gossip that you don't know about celebs 

5) What are the connotations of the Tatler colour scheme on this particular front cover?

The cover he colour for Tatler is very deluxe and in order to prevent the from being too popular and show it is for girls. Pink, white, black and green are the 4 used for this magazine. They all are good colours and make the magazine look girly and very niche.

The colours are all very light save for the sudden kohl black eyeliner around the model's face which could show a new trend or fashion style.


Representations

The different groups of people on the covers are represented as aristocratic, wealthy, posh British women.

2) What do the cover lines suggest about the lifestyle of rich people in the UK?

The cover lines suggest that the UK have time to read about the latest gossip about what is going on.

3) Are there any stereotypes being reinforced or subverted? How? Why?

Stereotypes being established could be that the women of this age are all interested in fashion and gossip. However the central image is described as very confident and strong.

4) Are there any misrepresentations or under-representations of groups? What might this suggest about the target audience?

There are many stereotypes such as rich white people care about who is the best and how the can be better due to one of the cover lines.

5) What would be the preferred and oppositional readings to this cover of Tatler?


Preferred reading for the Tatler magazine would be tht is professionl and whatever is said in the article my be reliable since its a popular rich magazine.



Social and cultural context

1) What aspects of British life or people are NOT reflected in Tatler? (Watch the clip above again if you need help with this - the clue is in the title 'Posh People')

Tatler does not represent Britain's Lifestyle, it does not tell us what problems there are, such as money issues. It does not reflect lower class in British or families that struggle with disposable incomes.

2) Tatler runs special issues on holidays, spa breaks, cosmetic surgery, watches and jewellery and private schools. What does this suggest about the magazine's representation of life in Britain?

The magazine represents the luxury and wealthy lifestyle in Britain. This is an inaccurate representation of Britain, it is the way the magazine has chosen to present Britain. This tells us many of the magazine's readers possibly lead luxurious and wealthy lifestyles which they can use as a way to escape the problems in British society.

3) What audience groups might be offended or insulted by the front cover of Tatler April 2017?

 People of colour or more poor people might be offended by the absence of appearance in Tatler as the people who model for Tatler are white and Tatler only talks and promotes luxury and people might feel offended by these magazines and think that they are not worthy.

4) Find three other front covers for Tatler. What issues or problems are regularly featured in Tatler?

Tatler's coverlines always have something to do with looking nice.It also talks about the biggest parties in England it might also show rich men who are looking for woman to spend a lot of money on. (dating websites)
