1) Write a definition of a passive audience:

This is where everyone agrees with the same thing and have same thoughts.

2) Write a definition of an active audience:

This is where everyone has their own opinion.

3) Write a definition of the hypodermic needle theory:

This is where you watch it and it is 'enjected' into your brain and you don't disagree with it or agree.

4) Write down a media text for each category of Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory and WHY it fits that particular audience use/gratification:

INFORMATION/SURVEILLANCE:  learning info you already dint know.
Why- Helps to educate the audience.
IDENTITY:personally relating to something.
 > Why:  this type of media allows the viewer too see their own lifestyle or see their own life experiences.

DIVERSION/ENTERTAINMENT:  being entertained away from your normal life.
 > Why: This allows the viewer to escape from their daily life.

RELATIONSHIPS: social interaction, caring about characters or celebrities.
 > Why:  This allows viewers to build connections with the people in shows or movies.

5) Re-watch the clip from Blue Planet above and write a paragraph analysing how elements of the clip offer the audience pleasures or gratifications (use media terminology from Uses and Gratifications theory and the 3 Vs - notes outlined above).

Information: this clip gives information to the viewers as it shows information and details about the oceans and the sea life inside the ocean. Also it gives you aspects and shows lives of different sea creatures

Entertainment : this clip gives this because it grabs the audience's attention by the interesting topic which pulls the viewer from their daily life and jobs and just persuading them to watch blue planet. Also this allows the viewers to escape their daily life and relax by watching the show.
