1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?

The Preferred reading would see the audience siding with the character of Harry - all youths are thugs, mindless and only do bad things.

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?

The Oppositional reader would say things like there is a reason behind the way the youths act, that they feel sorry for them rather than the people they are terrorizing. 

3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?

Harry Brown positioned youths as very bad and that they are thugs. (all) This would make the audience see that all young adults are not good people and that they do contemptible things.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?

The Oppostional reader would disagree and say no, not all youths are contemptible and do wrong things like drugs.

5) Write a 200 word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.


Preferred Readers would say that it is good for you and that it looks nice so you should buy it and eat it.They will buy it if they think that it looks good and is scrumptious to eat and you will be joyful you bought it. Your mind would be set on that one thing and that one thing is your goal to eat/have.
Negotiated Readers would be people like Vegetarians and don't want to eat it because it has something that they don't want inside it or people who are on a diet might not want to look at it or think about ti as they are trying to loose weight and not trying to gain weight.
Oppostional Readers would be a bit of both saying that it is alright if you have it sometimes but not all the time. Or they might eat it even if its not good for them to get the joy out of it but they wouldn't eat it all the time because they know its not good for you and might have it as a treat for themselves. Others might disagree and say that no they only have it when they want to and this might connote that people will eat it any time that they want just maybe not all the time and they would realize that it is not good for you to have it all the time or they might not have it all the time because it is a waste of money.


6) Now find your own advertisement and write a 200 word analysis using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.

Preferred Readers would say it is very nice and that you should buy it because they like it and they want you to try it and you will like it.They will only buy it if it looks good you should try it. You see it and your mind is set on to buying the drink and tasting it.
Negotiated Readers would be people like on diet and don't like what it has inside and might not buy it. They might not buy it because they have allergies or don't like to get fat or don't like sugar and want to stay healthy so might not buy it.
Oppositional Readers would say that it
